I guess the best way to start this story is to start at the beginning. Although it is a long story I feel I should tell it all.
We met Katlin while on a camping trip with my sister and her family. It was Wednesday July 15th,1998. We were at the water playing and enjoying the sun when my sister and I noticed a little girl around 6 or 7 playing in the water with her barbies. We thought it was weird that there was no adult or parent watching her in the water and were getting angry that there was no one around with this little girl. We decided to go up to the table and have some lunch. While eating lunch this same little girl came up to me and asked me if that little girl on the blanket was my little girl. (Cassie was laying on a blanket in the shade). This little girl asked if she could give Cassie her old barbie doll, because she had just gotten a new one. I told her she could if she really wanted to but that she did not have to that Cassie had lots of toys. The little girl insisted that Cassie needed to have the barbie so I said "ok." She then went over to the blanket, leaned down and gave Cassie a kiss on the cheek and said, "I will see you in heaven Cassie". At the time I just thought that kids say strange things sometimes and I was just touched at how sweet this little girl was. Then this little girl got up and walked away. We did not see her with anyone else, nor did we see her leave with anyone. Now, none of us adults were worried about this little girl walking off by herself, (something that is strange in and of itself). She just walked off towards the parking lot and the highway. None of us tried to stop her we just let her go. We never saw this little girl again. |
I met Katlin's mom Sue on January 22, 1999 while reading a post board at Mom's online. I believe the post simply said "something more" I answered her post. Sue and I soon found that our girls had alot in common. They had been born with similar complications and had died the same way, in their sleep very peacefully. They both had a siezure disorder and both were very petite in size.
Sue and I became fast friends and started talking online daily sometimes many times a day. While in one of our many converstations and talking about our girls Sue said somthing that stopped me dead in my tracks, made the hair stand up on the back on my neck and tears spill from my eyes. I knew, I knew then who the little girl at the lake was that summer. It was Katlin Laurene Ringhofer!!! Sue had just told me that Katlin always had a barbie in both hands and that they had gotten her a new barbie right before she had died. I asked Sue to send me a picture of Katlin, she did and the picture confirmed everything I had felt in my heart. Katlin looked just like the little girl that had told Cassie that she would see her in Heaven just four short days before she indeed went to Heaven. I believe 100% that this was Katlin and that she was Cassies special Angel. My family that was with me have seen Katlins picture and they like myself believe that it was Katlin.
I have come to love Sue and her family, they are very special to myself and my family. Although we have never met face to face they have become my family/friends and I love them all. |
